Problem
Community servers often lag because too many resources run at once. Server owners also struggled to grant admin access without sharing the entire database credential.
Approach
I split resources into a core layer, a jobs layer, and a UI layer. Every resource has explicit dependencies, and heavy logic moved server-side. The admin panel uses role-based permissions instead of a shared password. All database queries go through oxmysql with prepared statements.
Key features
- Character system with separate position, inventory, and money.
- Four starter jobs with salaries and progression.
- Permission-based admin panel with an action log.
- Tick-rate optimisation for resources that do not need per-frame updates.
Results
- 01
Server boot time fell from 38 seconds to 16 seconds.
- 02
Average CPU usage dropped by roughly 30% after idle resources were disabled.
- 03
New admins could be trained in minutes rather than hours.
Notes
On a game server, performance is a feature. Every unused resource still costs something; removing it has more impact than optimising code.
